The most common symptom of HPV infection is actually the absence of any symptoms at all. In most cases, people with HPV never experience any noticeable signs or health problems, and the infection clears up on its own within two years.

However, in some cases, HPV can cause certain symptoms, depending on the type of HPV strain:

Genital warts: These are the most common visible symptom of HPV infection. They can appear as small, fleshy bumps or growths on the genitals, anus, or thighs. Warts caused by HPV can be flat, cauliflower-shaped, or single or multiple.

Cervical cell changes: Certain HPV strains can cause abnormal changes in the cells of the cervix, which can be detected during a Pap smear. These changes are not cancer, but they can be a precursor to cancer if left untreated.

Other cancers: HPV is also linked to several cancers, including cervical cancer, vulvar cancer, vaginal cancer, penile cancer, anal cancer, and throat cancer. However, it’s important to note that most people with HPV will not develop cancer.
